Have you registered yet? What? No time? No money? Don’t forget, it takes money to make money and it takes time to make time. A conference in Orlando might sound like a boondoggle. And yes, there is plenty of fun to be had, but don’t underestimate the quality and quantity of training you can receive! Where else will you find so many relevant classes taught by so many expert instructors in a single location? Think about what you might learn from just one class!
Since I’m teaching a Sheet Set lab, I’ll use that as an example. In this 3-hour hands-on lab, you will start with an ordinary set of drawings and apply all of the necessary properties and fields to make it a fully functioning sheet set with automated titleblocks, view labels, callouts and sheet list table. If you apply what you learn in this session to your own projects, consider how much time you will save over the next few months. Think about one of your current projects… How much time do you spend:
• Organizing sheets trying to get them in the correct order for plotting or transmitting?
• Finding and opening drawing files to edit? How much time do you spend opening and plotting drawing files?
• Selecting the right subset of drawings to share with consultants, suppliers, contractors, clients, etc?
• Reviewing and editing the cover sheet to ensure the sheet list is accurate?
• Reviewing and editing the title block to ensure the data is accurate?
• Reviewing and editing callout and view label data? Especially after someone decides to slip another sheet into the middle of the set?
Add up all the time that you or anyone else spends doing these everyday tasks and then figure out how much money it will cost for the remainder of this one project. The knowledge you gain from one class alone could save you the time and money to pay for your attendance at AU.
